Some of you might have heard about my knee accidents last year. In Bonaire during a photo shoot in the waves I lost control doing a double. Sadly one foot was hooked in the strap a little too long. I terribly crashed and already knew something went totally wrong. My doctor and my physio did all they could but still…

During the Bonaire World Cup there was this exiting second heat against Amado. I already did win a heat against him the day before and again we had a very crazy battle on the water. Sailing a heat with Amado always was and is something special for both of us as we know each other for such a long time. Let’s say it also is a private battle between buddies. Both of us were sailing like mad. During a move I crashed so bad right in front of the audience (see photos above!!!). Later, some people said they did feel my pain watching the crash. Again, my doctor and my physio did all they could but still…

There is not so much to report about the Fuerteventura World Cup. My knee didn’t work well and I had to cancel the rest of the season. For a sailor who made it into the top ten the year before this is a very bitter pill. In the world ranking I was dropped back to the ground.

Anyway, the decision to stop my PWA world cup season was a good one. Me and my knee have been doing very very well. Over the last 7 months of rehab/recovery and training at Bon Bida Spa & Gym, I can now finally hit the water again. Luckily no surgery was needed!

Right now in February 2015 I am back on the water and I gotta say it is going great. It started off with just sailing around, trying to make powerful jibes and little jumps to going back to my old freestyle routine. There is no pain in my knee anymore. Over the last months I have been working very hard to get back where I want to be, it’s been a though road but now I am finally starting to see the results.

Since I’ve been back on Bonaire in September I have only been on Bonaire to train at the gym and get back on the water. Bonaire is the perfect place to recover from an injury like this for me.
